Fine Art Rules & Guidelines
Please be familiar with all of our rules and guidelines before entering the competition. They are as follows:
- All works must be wired and ready for hanging. No strings, saw tooth hangers or cardboard hangers will be accepted.
- Entries restricted to art produced in the past 3 years, including Display Only pieces.
- Entries limited to eight (8) competitive pieces in any combination of classes.
- May enter three (3) additional pieces for Display Only.
- Pieces entered in Class MC – Multicultural Class and TC – Theme Class must pertain to the subject matter and must be two-dimensional.
- The Receiving Committee reserve the right to reject entries not pertaining to size or subject matter in all classes.
- All entries must comply with the following:
– No copying another artist’s or photographer’s work.
– Must be original artwork.
– May not have been previously entered in the Saskatchewan Art Showcase Fine Art competition.
– If it is determined that artwork is a copy it will be moved to ‘display only.’ - Size classes:
Classes 1 – 7, MC & TC – maximum size 42” x 42” including frame.
Class 8 Sculpture – dimensions no larger than 3’ x 3’ x 3’. - All works submitted must have an identification label affixed to the back upper right-hand corner. Please place sculpture labels on the bottom of the work. All work must be accompanied by a completed entry form.
- Division A & B1 only – pieces may be matted or framed.
- Division B2, C & D – all mediums, except oil/acrylics must be framed and under glass.
- No nudes.
- We encourage artists to value their pieces for possible sale to the viewing audience.
- If a class/division does not have a minimum of six (6) entries the piece will be re-classified.
Fine Art Divisions
Division A: 10 years & under
Division B1: 11-14 years
Division B2: 15-18 years
Division C: 19 & over beginner artist with less than 5 years experience
Division D: Intermediate artists with 5+ years experience
Division F: First-time entrant (adult only)
Division P: Advanced artist with 10+ years experience
Fine Art Classes
Class 1: Oils/Acrylics
Class 2: Watercolour
Class 3: Pastels/Coloured Pencil or Pen & Ink
Class 4: Graphite/Charcoal
Class 5: Mixed Media
Class 6: Computer Generated/Graphic Art (no photos)
Class 7: Cartoon/Character Design/Manga
Class 8: Sculpture (3-D works only)
Class MC: Multi-cultural – subject matter must pertain to multi-culturalism (ie. Chinese, Ukrainian, Aboriginal, Scottish, etc.). Must be two-dimensional
Display: Maximum of three (3) pieces.
