As Prairieland enters its historic 140th year of operation and the 140th annual Saskatoon EX approaches, we are excited to unveil our new logo, a vibrant symbol that reflects our evolving community and rich history. The new “spark” logo is a testament to our commitment to growth, diversity, and inclusion.

Designed to capture the essence of our fair’s legacy, the logo features 14 province-shaped spokes, each representing a decade of our operation. These spokes radiate outward, symbolizing the impact and reach of the Saskatoon EX over the years. The logo’s eight vibrant colors not only signify our new eight-day format but also celebrate the diversity and inclusivity of our community. We are proud to acknowledge and incorporate the colours of Indigenous communities, paying homage to the rich cultural heritage that has shaped our region.

“Our new logo is more than just a visual update; it’s a reflection of our past, present, and future,” says Dan Kemppainen, Chief Executive Officer at Prairieland. “As we celebrate 140 years, we are committed to honouring our history while embracing the changes that make our community stronger and more vibrant.”

As previously announced, the Saskatoon EX introduced significant updates for 2025. The fair will extend its duration to an eight-day format for the first time since 1999, running from Thursday, July 31, to Thursday, August 7. Additionally, a new five-year contract with North American Midway Entertainment (NAME) will bring a full A-circuit midway with a 33% increase in ride capacity, ensuring shorter lineups for attendees. These enhancements are part of a broader plan to improve the overall experience for fairgoers and year-round patrons alike.

Join us as we celebrate this milestone and look ahead to the exciting future of the Saskatoon EX. The fair will run from July 31 to August 7, 2025, offering a variety of attractions, entertainment, and activities for all ages.

An EX “eyewitness'” is what you might call your “risk-averse” group of fun lovers. They love the sights, the sounds, the chills and thrills, but they would much rather take a back seat to all the heart-pounding action and just observe their friends and loved ones jumping into the fray.

How to Spot Them

They’re the ones holding the purses and stuffed animal prizes of their adrenaline junkie friends.

They’re taking the photos for their food-obsessed loved ones who just swallowed a fiery hot chicken wing.

They’re seated at the SaskTel Grandstand, soaking in the music while lightly tapping their toes to the beat.

Why They Love the Saskatoon EX

They are in their element when they have anonymity! Find them in the dark, munching buttery popcorn, enjoying the entertainment from the comfort of their seat.

They’re browsers and shoppers! You’ll find them milling about in the Market Square and exploring the Summer Faire exhibits. They’re living proof that you can indeed take a selfie with a gorgeous handmade quilt!

Creatures of habit, they will frequent the same booths and games summer after summer and never tire of it – getting the annual old-timey photo, scoring their once-a-year hot and salty pretzel and taking in a vigorous game of BINGO!

There's a lot of living history at the Saskatoon EX... learn all about the iconic pastry we're famous for!

The post Signature Spudnuts first appeared on Saskatoon EX.

Here at the Saskatoon EX, we pride ourselves on our very own patented delicacy – the much-loved Spudnut.

For the past 50-plus years, Saskatoon EX patrons have been lining up for this unique ring of deep-fried goodness, making it a culinary staple for many EX-goers. Some might mistakenly believe our Spudnuts are like any other regular potato doughnut, but they are dead wrong. Our secret recipe includes a specially-spiced potato flour made by Bakemark that is patented to Prairieland and is only used in the making of our Spudnuts. So don’t be fooled; not all Spudnuts are created equal.

Making the perfect Spudnut isn’t easy; in fact, at Prairieland, it’s a team effort! Each summer our Spudnut Superviser oversees the production of the 6,500-11,000 goodies we bake and sell each day of the Saskatoon EX. The mixers arrive at 5:30 am to begin the mixing process (second shift starts at 2:00 pm). The dough is separated into batches which are covered and left to rise for an hour before a room full of staff hand-form the dough into rings. Trays and trays of dough rings are left to rise for another 45 minutes before they’re ready for the deep fryer. Lastly, comes the good stuff! Vanilla Spudnuts go into the glaze hot while chocolate Spudnuts go in cold. From start to finish, it takes 65 employees to execute the mission!

Sure, it’s a process, but we love the tradition of making AND eating them as much as you do! You’ll find the Spudnut Hut right across from the Sasktel Grandstand as you enter either end of Concession Row.

*Spudnuts are made with potato flour, however, we cannot guarantee that the kitchen or the process is entirely gluten-free. If you are concerned, celiac or otherwise intolerant, please do not consume this treat. Our patron’s health is important to us, so please be safe, and enjoy!

Calling all thrill-seekers! If you come to the EX for the fast-paced adrenaline rush of the midway, but you’re on the fence about whether to invest in a Superpass, let us assure you, you won’t be disappointed. Here are the Top 5+1 reasons to buy a Superpass!

#1 Maximum Savings

A Superpass is a ride lover’s best friend. It’s an all-in-one pass that includes both Gate Admission to the Saskatoon EX PLUS all the midway rides you can handle for ONE incredible day!

# 2 Advanced Pricing

Prices for the Superpass increase after opening day of the Saskatoon EX, so it totally pays to get yours early for the additional savings.

# 3 Flexibility

Not everyone is aware that you can actually use the two pieces of the Superpass separately. For example, an adult with a child 6 years or younger could use the admission portion for themselves and the ride wristband for the child. Why? Because kids 6 and under are admitted to the Saskatoon EX for free!

#4 On Your Timeline

When you buy a Superpass, you’re in charge of when to use it because there’s no specific date attached to it. If you were planning on going Thursday, but the boss makes you work late, just go the next night! Wanted to spend the entire day riding but you wake up to rain and wind? Pick a beautiful weather day and live your best life!

#5 Free Transit During EX Days

Show your Superpass and ride FREE on all Saskatoon Transit regular routes to and from Prairieland. Children 10 & under ride FREE all day Wednesday and Seniors 60+ ride FREE all day Thursday on regular bus routes. Click here for more information on Saskatoon Transit services.

#6 BONUS: Free SaskTel Grandstand Show Access

FREE with the General Admission portion of your Superpass comes access to all the shows at the SaskTel Grandstand! Live music under the prairie stars… does it get any better than this?

Now that you know all there is to know about the Superpass, we feel like we should let you know that you can go even one step further with a FastPass! That gets you “front-of-the-line” access at each ride, saving you time and helping you get the most out of your ride experience at the EX. Warning: Fastpasses are available on-site only with a limited quantity sold each day. ALSO! The Fastpass doesn’t include admission, so make sure you factor that in!

In the fast-moving environment of this modern-day fair, one would little expect to stumble upon a delicious slice of Saskatchewan history. Unique to the Saskatoon EX, you’ll find a fair food unlike all the others in its simplicity – good old-fashioned Doukhobor bread. So old, in fact, that the recipe for it dates back over 200 years!

How does this one-of-a-kind delicacy continue its age-old tradition here on the Saskatchewan prairie? First, it takes at least 60 volunteers from the Doukhobor Society of Saskatoon to hand-make the bread every day during the Saskatoon EX. Each batch of dough uses 132 pounds of flour which makes 100 loaves of delicious, sweet-smelling bread – all organic ingredients and no additives. Once the dough rises, they are baked in one of three traditional clay-brick ovens heated by high-grade mill works hardwood and fire. All of this takes place at the Fresh Homemade Bread booth at the Saskatoon EX.

The bread-making itself relies on perfect timing; once the ovens are fully heated, the ashes are pulled out and set aside. Then, 33 risen loaves per oven are slid in and left to bake for approximately one hour, until they are beautifully brown on top. Once the loaves are pulled out for cooling, the fire is rekindled for the next batch. Running two shifts, the booth averages about 700 loaves a day. That’s a lot of home-baked goodness!

While you’re waiting in line, be sure to read up on the history of the Doukhobor people right beside the order window! You’ll learn how they came to Canada in 1899 after suffering religious persecution in Russia and how bread is a symbol of their motto, “Toil and peaceful life.”

So why do this? The Doukhobor Society of Saskatoon uses the proceeds from their bread sales at the Saskatoon EX to fund their other activities. They also see it as a way of continuing an important cultural tradition; the older ones teach the younger ones to step in. The volunteers range in age from teenagers to golden-agers and come as individuals and families to make the dough, fire the ovens, and serve the customers.

Since 1972, Doukhobor Bread can be purchased by the slice with butter and jam, or by the loaf. The booth is open daily from 12 noon until midnight (or until the bread sells out).

The post A Slice of History: Doukhobor Bread first appeared on Saskatoon EX.

Night Riders are the nocturnal creatures that take the night shift at The EX. They appreciate the palpable, captivating vibe that results when the sun goes down and the lights come up. They appear in droves and the Midway buzzes with their collective energy.

• How to Spot Them

They come armed with their pre-purchased Superpass and FastPass for a night of thrills and chills.

They’re carrying a light-up sword, balloon or blaster gun they just couldn’t say no to!

They travel in groups of like-minded night-owls, soaking up the excitement of the night.

• Why They Love the Saskatoon EX

The dozens of rides are what they really came for. Dazzling views from up high of the entire fair and even the city beyond!

The games… they call to them! They are mesmerized by the barkers and the flashing lights that beckon them to win that adorable, over-sized prize.

As if all the electricity in the air wasn’t enough, they can’t help but stick around until the nightly 11:00 pm fireworks display, preferably viewed from high atop the Ferris Wheel or Big Swing.

Music Lovers adore summer festivals and open-air stages, existing on the energy and atmosphere of a live band.

Music Lovers just adore summer! With all the festivals and open-air stages around, they thrive on the energy and atmosphere of a live musical event. Yeah, they like the food and hop on a few rides, but those are only time killers until the band hits the stage.

• How to Spot Them:

They’re in the front row of the stage wearing the band’s concert t-shirt from 6 tours ago.

They moved heaven and earth to win Meet & Greet passes on the radio and they’re gonna wear that wristband until it decomposes.

They’re lined up long before the band does their soundcheck and have reinforcements to bring them food and hold their place in line for bathroom breaks. (They properly stretch to be at peak running performance once the gates open so they can get as close to their musical idols as possible.)

• Why They Love the Saskatoon EX:

They’re smart enough to know that this is the most affordable musical thrill ride of the summer; all shows are FREE with admission!

They can rock out at the SaskTel Grandstand, relax with a beverage at the Kickin’ Horse Saloon or chill out at the Ruth Street Patio to dozens of great bands all week long.

They can take their pick of seating options, all the way from a box suite with their friends to rush seating amongst their fellow Music Lovers.

Chow Hounds come to The EX for one reason only: the FOOD! They arrive at the gates on an empty stomach, knowing they’ll be filling up with the best fair food they’ll find all year.

• How to Spot Them:

They have a different food item in their hand every time they walk by.

You’ll hear them raving, “You HAVE to try this” to everyone within earshot.

They manage a one-handed selfie with their latest snack before that first glorious bite.

• Why They Love the Saskatoon EX:

There are hundreds of culinary choices for every taste and preference along Concession Row.

Sure, they love the new food fads but never forget the all-time favourites like Spudnuts, Doukhobor Bread and the Ukrainian Kitchen perogies!

They can walk around for hours, sniffing the air for fresh finds, while walking off the calories that you can only earn, once a year, at the Saskatoon EX.
