Inexhaustible, passionate and genuine are some of the words that leap to
mind when describing Mr. Ken Beattie. Ken's roots are firmly planted in
the world of horticulture. Graduating from The Niagara Parks Commission
School of Horticulture in 1975, Mr. Beattie's career path has taken him to
the four corners of the earth fueling his passion for all things green and
growing. As well as developing award-winning programs specific to the
changing needs of Canadians, Ken has reached out to the world's communities
becoming involved in many ground-breaking initiatives. He has worked to
provide insightful strategies enhancing our daily lives while delivering
long-term, healthful solutions. Focused on improving the way people manage
the earth's resources, Ken proves that the smallest changes can make a
world difference.
Thrust on to the Canadian television scene in 1985, Ken has spent the past
16 years celebrating those things in life we sometimes take for granted. His engaging, playful personality takes gardening out of the dirt and into
our hearts. "It's not rocket science, it's gardening," Ken says to one
caller, and "throw it out, it's dead" he says to another during his live
television show Get Growing. From bugs to blight, from roses to shrubs the
questions come fast and furious and Ken's encyclopedic knowledge is
dazzling as he answers any and all questions without skipping a beat.
Ken Beattie's easy exuberance is infectious both on television and in
person. He makes 'humdrum' fun, solutions simple and gardening a great
reason to go out and play. Currently Ken is the horticulturist for Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg, one of North America’s largest urban park.
