CROWDS ENJOY FIFTH ANNUAL SASKATCHEWAN EQUINE EXPO

Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corporation in partnership with the Saskatchewan Horse Federation and the Western College of Veterinary Medicine are very pleased with the attendance for 5th Annual Saskatchewan Equine Expo.  In excess of 9000 horse enthusiasts attended the events in both the Prairieland Ag Centre and the Trade and Convention Centre over the 4-day event.

Throughout the weekend, attendees were able to take part in a variety of seminars and demonstrations presented by the Western College of Veterinary Medicine;  world renowned horsemen, Jonathon Field; crowd favorite Connie Dorsch; and Cowboy Dressage expert, Lyn Ringrose- Moe.

The ‘free’ Thursday evening brought over 500 people to watch the Trainers Challenge participants choose their horse and work with them for the first of their 4 hour sessions. Friday and Saturday evening’s Equine Extravaganza thrilled a sold out audience that featured the first Equine Expo Hunter Derby and modified Nations Cup Competitions.  The Flying C’s Trick Riders awed the crowd with their daring routine and demonstration of outstanding horsemanship.

The Trainer’s Challenge, sponsored by NAERIC, drew large crowds for every performance and on Sunday evening Seth Abrahamson, from Broderick, Saskatchewan was named the winner.  Seth was presented with a beautiful hand-made buckle from Bill Wilm from St. Brieux, SK.  Team Quarter Horse won the Battle of the Breeds competition for the 3rd year in a row.

EQUINE INDUSTRY WEEKEND AT PRAIRIELAND PARK

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan – Horse lovers from across Canada will gather in Saskatoon for the annual Saskatchewan Equine Expo February 12-14 at Saskatoon Prairieland Park. This three day expo will include educational seminars, demonstrations, competitions, a trade-show and the very entertaining, Equine Extravaganza on Friday and Saturday evenings.

“The very popular Trainer Challenge is the crowd favorite, but we are very excited about the return of the Battle of the Breeds and an outstanding line up of weekend events featuring Cowboy Dressage specialist Lyn Ringrose Moe from California;  Saskatchewan’s own Hunter/Jumper expert Connie Dorsch and world renowned horseman Jonathan Field from Abbotsford BC. We are hoping for good weather and given the popularity of the event expect excellent crowds again this year”,   says Agriculture Manager, Lori Cates of Prairieland Park.Friday and Saturday evenings the Equine Extravaganza will feature Battle of the Breeds competitions, a Musical Freestyle Cowboy Dressage Demonstration, Jumping demonstrations and the thrilling Flying C’s Trick Riding demonstration. A separate admission is required for these evening performances.  In addition there will be a professional live video feed to a giant screen in the Trade Centre will allow patrons to watch all the action in comfort.

Three trainers will compete in the very popular Trainer Challenge.  A change to the format this year will allow participants an additional 1 hour with their chosen horses.  The horse selection will be on Thursday at 4:30pm, followed by a one hour training session.  The Thursday evening performance is free.  “We are very pleased to have three outstanding young trainers this year”, stated Cates.  Seth Abrahamson from Broderick, SK; Slade Mutton, from Bienfait, SK; and Kateri Cowley, our first female competitor, from Okotokos, AB.

This year 90 companies will participate in the trade show that offers something for everyone that has an interest in western lifestyles, art, and anything “horse related”.  Vendors from across Canada will make their way to Saskatoon for this unique equine event.
The Western College of Veterinary Medicine will facilitate live demonstrations and information sessions on current horse health topics throughout the weekend.

A new feature being presented by The Saskatchewan Horse Federation in conjunction with the WCVM, will focus on educational activities that will complement the arena events of the 2016 Equine Expo. These activities will be directed to youth, however there will be something for everyone. Whether you are a beginner horse owner, a want-to-be owner, or an already converted horse enthusiast, the educational booth will have something that is sure to be of interest.
